Macquarie Centre is lighting up Christmas for Starlight

Welcome to Macquarie Centre's 2008 Starlight Christmas campaign. For the third year running, Macquarie Centre is proud to be an official supporter of the Starlight Children’s Foundation of Australia (SCFA) in an effort to put smiles on the faces of seriously ill children and their families this Christmas. Starlight brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and their families all over Australia. They do this by delivering innovative programs that provide a positive distraction from their illness and restore the fun, laughter and joy that serious illness takes away.

The Starlight Wish granting program provides an opportunity for a child to have their own individual dream come true, giving them something truly unique to look forward to, and an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

Help grant Lina's Wish

Eight-year-old Lina was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy when she was 6 months old. Sadly this condition means Lina is almost completely blind and her speech ability is limited. Despite this, Lina is a very happy child and has an extremely supportive family. Lina engages in a variety of different sensory type activities like music therapy and water therapy for stimulation. She loves listening to music while she sings and shakes her body in time to the beat!

Lina's Starlight wish is for a sensory playground in her backyard! This will incorporate equipment like a custom made playground with sensory activities. Starlight is currently researching the sensory equipment and Lina’s wish will be granted later this year. Lina can't wait for her wish to come true.

“Lina is really excited to have her wish granted. She loves spending time in the backyard with her siblings. She will now be able to spend more time outdoors, keep entertained and stimulated for longer and have more quality time with family and friends' said Maysa, Lina’s mother.
